At age 60, Shirley Grissom decided that she needed something extra in her life. She had operated a construction business in Michigan for years and raised three children, but something was missing. Shirley Grissom made the decision to go to modeling school. She ending up on Oprah as ninth out of a selection of 4,000 candidates for a show on "Sexy after 40," which aired October of '89.
This was one of many exciting experiences:
9/89 Kay Mitchell Productions - runaway competition, 1st Place out of 200 contestants.
1/90 Oil of Olay and Ladies Home Journal - selected as one of five finalists from 3,000 candidates, etc...
9/94- 10/94 Lifetime Television - photograph entitled, Picture What Women In American Do was selected as one of the finalists for their program, and pictures were exhibited at the National Museum of Women in the Arts of Washington. D.C.
9/97 Shirley was notified by the Natural Athlete Strength Association that she was the 1997 National Gold Medal Power Lifter and has the opportunity to try for the World Gold Medal Power Lifter in August, 1998, which she says will be a real challenge.
